I helped shape Beyond These Walls from the ground up, working closely with the Anglicare team in collaborative workshops to explore and refine the concept. I focused on UI and UX design, creating a minimal interface that kept the spotlight on the branching, choose your own adventure narrative. I also worked collaboratively on copywriting to ensure the language felt clear, empathetic, and aligned with the story’s intent. Every design choice supported the narrative, helping players connect deeply with each of the three characters’ journeys. I developed a series of micro games that placed players in tough, real world scenarios around parenting, debt, food scarcity, and educational inequality. Each decision forced users to balance competing priorities like wellbeing, finances, and employability, with no perfect answers, just trade offs and consequences. These branching choices were designed to spark reflection, empathy, and a better understanding of the challenges people face in complex, high pressure situations.
Beyond These Walls became more than just a digital experience. It earned recognition as an award winning hybrid app that is now actively used in schools to spark empathy and conversation. Knowing that students step into the shoes of three very different characters, grapple with real world dilemmas, and walk away with fresh perspectives is a powerful reminder of why thoughtful, interactive storytelling matters. Collaborating on the concept, UI/UX, copy, and mini games for this project remains one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.
